In my opinion you've captured the essence of of how to get started making money online. Blogspot blogs are free, easy to get up and running for beginners and if it doesn't work out, all you've lost is some of your time. If things go well (and you've proven there's money in the niche) and you're worried about being at the mercy of Google (Blogger) you can always register your own domain and use your first site to promote the second. And nobody said you can't have 2 sites on the first page of search results. I still make the bulk of my income from a free blogspot blog.
